Film Review:

Imagine every genre convention you can, and the chances are they'll be aped or celebrated here. This delightful little film is broad in both elements, reach and ambition. It doesn't always get there, but it sure has fun trying. The story has it all, aliens, urban legends, zombies, action, frathouse comedy and cracklin' dialogue. That already sounds like a case of too many cooks, but here it works with aplomb.

The premise is really simple, some nasty alien critters escape to planet earth where they begin a parasitic invasion with us as the hosts. In the middle of this are two teens Chris Romero (Jason Lively) and J.C. Hooper (Steve Marshall) - who like most of the characters are named after horror directors. They spend their time trying to get laid and trying to fit in to their new college life. Can they save themselves, the woman they love and the high school. Only time will tell...

Throw in a bitter cop with a dark past and some crackling one liners, a good looking heroine for the boys to dote on and a sorority house full of young ladies to save from a busload of zombified jocks, and you have the recipe for 84 minutes of top drawer entertainment. Sadly, this is another film just crying out to be released on DVD, its a little corker.

On top of this there some corking comedy, some great special effects and masses of eminently quotable dialogue, of which Tom Atkins (as Det. Ray Cameron) gets the lion's share. Real crackers - such as "The good news is your dates have arrived. The bad news is they're all dead" and his constant greeting of "Thrill me". And it does a damn good job of doing that. They really don't make 'em like this anymore, unfortunately.

Video Capture Comments:

The first half an hour of the tape has some damage to it in the form of an ever present line across the screen. Other than that the tape is in good nick and the capture is not too bad. This was in a high contrast phase, so at times may be a bit on the dark side. Other than that its acceptable, if not a bit grainy and murky. That's VHS for you though.
