Film Title: The Alchemist

Director: Charles Band

Year: 1981

Film Review:

As much as I enjoy my films cheesy and as much as I love Charles Band for Empire and some of his own fine films, this one should have stayed on the shelf. It wasn't released for 3 years after it was made.

Nonsensical, slow and plodding at 80 minutes it feels a lot longer. Not a lot really happens - but its worth a look for some early glimpses of those wonderful 80s effects that Empire cornered the market in - flashing lights and bits and some nice goblin make-ups.

Obviously the budget didn't stretch to making the dimensional gate set look like anything other than some badly painted and constructed wooden effort. But hey - it has Robert 'Exterminator' Ginty in it as a cursed immortal - what more can you ask for? 80 mins of my life back would be a good start.
